David Nokes

David Noakes was born in London in 1948. He is now Reader in English Literature at King’s College, London. His previous books include ‘Jonathan Swift, A Hypocrite Reversed’ (winner of the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for biography, 1985) and ‘John Gay, A Profession of Friendship’ (1995). He has also written several television screenplays inclusding adaptations of Samuel Richardson’s ‘Clarissa’ (1992) and of Anne Brontë’s ‘The Tenant of Wildfell Hall’ (1996). He is now a regular reviewer for the ‘Sunday Times’, the ‘Times Literary Supplement’ and the ‘Spectator’ and in 1995 was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. He lives in London and is married with one daughter.
