Date: Monday 17th July 2017
Place: Gennaro Room, The Groucho Club
At this summer’s 4th Estate Literary Salon we ask ‘Is there any such thing as a ‘female’ style of writing? Can you tell, without looking at the title page, whether an author is male or female?’ Come and hear another stellar panel discuss the thorny issue of how gender can inform one’s own writing at The Groucho Club.
Last night saw Stylist magazine align their inaugural book club with the 4th Estate Literary Salon for the first time, to present ‘In Conversation With’ author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The event was held at the beautiful Walforf Hilton hotel in London. Ahead of the Bailey’s Prize, the winner of which will be announced on the 4th of June, Chimamamda read an extract from the shortlisted Americanah, going on to discuss the motifs of love, family and politics within the book with Stylist, as well as her own upbringing and resulting attitudes to love, sex and language.
Come and be challenged, inspired and entertained at The Book Club where we will be discussing that elusive ‘first novel’ publishing deal with a panel of fantastic authors; from how to keep motivated despite endless rejection letters to the value of creative writing courses, to tips on how to break into the modern literary landscape.
The panel will include David Baddiel, stadium-filling comedian and critically acclaimed, bestselling author, Nathan Filer, author of this year’s smash debut The Shock of the Fall, and the globally bestselling, Costa Award winning (formerly known at the Whitbread Award) writer Tash Aw. Chaired by Sunday Times assistant literary editor Robert Collins. Read more…
