Waiting at the Gate

Heather Ingman

Harriet Lee, an artist, recently divorced from a Tory MP, moves from London back to the East Yorks town where she grew up. She has two children, Daniel, 7, autistic, and Nicky,3.

At the gates of St Cecilia’s nursery school she is reunited with Alix and Peggy, her old school friends, now mothers themselves. Together they set out to uncover the identity of an anonymous sender of poison pen letters and E-mail to parents at St Cecilia’s containing vicious allegations and causing untold damage and tensions. As one by one the alleagtions in the letters turn out to be true and a community’s hidden secrets come to light, the effect on people’s lives is similar to the effect of revelations in tabloid newspapers.
